Start here if your reef is new. Everything in this collection is under $200, and the easiest picks are the soft corals and mushrooms: clove polyps, palys, finger leathers and Rhodactis. The Neon Green Finger Leather and the WWC Firework Clove Polyp Colony both make good first corals. For LPS, start with a Duncan or a Blasto. These groups handle moderate light and a wider range of water conditions than SPS do, which matters while a young tank is still settling.

Before your first coral goes in:

  • Wait until the tank has cycled and your test results have been steady for a while.
  • Start new corals low in the tank and move them up gradually as they adjust to your light.
  • Give torches, hammers and frogspawn room on the rockwork, since their sweeper tentacles sting other corals.
  • Wear gloves when you handle palys and zoas.

Not every piece here suits a brand new system, so if you are unsure about one, ask us first. Acropora and other SPS can wait until your tank has been stable for months. More options sit in our LPS corals collection and the full Reef Ready tier.

Every coral here has been through quarantine by the time it reaches you. Livestock ships Monday through Thursday. We confirm a delivery day with you before your order goes out. Have the tank ready and someone home that day. On a first coral order, the Live Arrival Guarantee in our refund policy is worth a read before you check out. Local reefers can also collect their order at 46 NW 36th St, our Design District showroom.
