Description

Aussie Ultra Hot Interstellar Mushroom (2-Polyp Frag)

Typical needs for this coral type. Ask us if you're unsure.

Transform Your Tank with a Showstopping Piece of Deep-Sea Artistry

Looking for a reef centerpiece that stops scrolling? The Aussie Ultra Hot Interstellar Mushroom is one of the most visually arresting Discosoma variants to come out of Australian waters — a swirling, otherworldly display of electric neons, metallic sheens, and deep-space patterning that photographs like science fiction and looks even better under reef lighting. Sourced from premium Australian aquaculture operations, this 2-polyp frag represents a genuine collector's opportunity in a market where truly standout morphs are increasingly hard to find.

Mushroom corals (Discosoma sp.) are famously forgiving, making this an ideal high-impact addition for reefers of any experience level. Each polyp can reach 3–5 inches at full expansion, filling in naturally over time to create a rich, flowing carpet effect on rockwork or open substrate. Their slow, undulating movement under flow gives a reef tank a sense of life and depth that few other corals can match — and as a low-flow species that does well in low to moderate light, they reward placement creativity without demanding perfection.

QUICK STATS & CARE GUIDE

  • Common Name: Aussie Ultra Hot Interstellar Mushroom (Discosoma sp.)
  • Current Size: 2-polyp frag, each polyp approximately 1–2 inches; expands to 3–5 inches
  • Care Level: Easy — excellent for beginners and advanced reefers alike
  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive — can sting neighboring corals with chemical allelopathy; provide adequate spacing
  • Diet: Primarily photosynthetic (zooxanthellae); benefits from occasional target feeding of coral-specific foods or micro-plankton
  • Reef Safe: Yes, with caution — keep spaced away from stony corals and LPS neighbors
  • Water Conditions: Temp 76–80°F | Salinity 1.025–1.026 | pH 8.1–8.3 | Low flow | Low to moderate lighting (50–150 PAR)

WHY BUY FROM THE CORAL BOUTIQUE?

Every specimen leaving The Coral Boutique is ethically sourced, fully quarantined, and conditioned in our Miami facility until it is eating, expanding, and thriving — so what arrives at your door is a healthy, acclimated coral ready to settle into its new home, not recover from the journey.

WYSIWYG on Select Items

If this coral is in our WYSIWYG collection and has one in stock, the photos show the exact frag or colony that ships to you. Otherwise, the photos may be representative.

Shipping & Pickup

Coral orders ship Monday through Wednesday. We confirm a delivery day with you before your order goes out, and we will hold it if the weather is bad or a coral needs more time in quarantine.

Coral orders over $399 qualify for free shipping. Fish orders over $599 qualify for free shipping. Free same-day Miami pickup is available at 46 NW 36th St and is usually ready in 1–2 hours.

Live Arrival Guarantee

Eligible coral orders are covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee. Photograph the coral in its sealed bag before you open anything, then email that photo with your order number within two hours of delivery. Our team reviews every claim and gets you an answer within one business day.

Acclimation

For best results, acclimate slowly and place new corals in lower light and flow before moving them to their final position. Coral response can vary depending on tank stability, lighting, flow, and water parameters.

Photography

We photograph our corals in house, up close, so you can judge color, shape and polyp extension. For WYSIWYG listings with one in stock, the photographed coral is the exact coral that ships.
