Description

Blotched Anthias "Blotchy"

Transform Your Tank with One of the Rarest and Most Coveted Deep-Water Anthias in the Hobby

Looking for an anthias that operates in a completely different league from the rest? The Blotched Anthias (Odontanthias borbonius) — known affectionately in the reef community as "Blotchy" — is a deep-water species so rarely seen in the trade that experienced collectors treat every availability as an event. Its vivid yellow-orange body is splashed with irregular purple and violet blotches that create a pattern unlike anything else in the saltwater aquarium hobby. This is not a fish you stumble across — this is one you wait for.

Collected from depths of 100 feet or more, Blotchy requires careful acclimation and a stable, well-established system to thrive. It prefers slightly cooler water than typical reef inhabitants and appreciates low-stress tank conditions with consistent feeding. Once settled, it is a remarkably rewarding long-term keeper — peaceful, visually extraordinary, and a genuine conversation piece for anyone who sees it. This is an advanced acquisition for the serious collector.

Acclimation

Acclimate fish carefully and introduce them into a stable, established saltwater aquarium. Match temperature and salinity slowly, keep lights low during introduction, and monitor behavior closely after release.

Photography

We photograph our fish under balanced, aquarium-safe lighting to accurately represent their true coloration and patterning. Our goal is to show how each fish will appear in a home reef or marine setup—not under overly blue or altered lighting.

Because fish are active and constantly moving, images are representative of the species and quality you can expect. Every fish is carefully selected for health, coloration, and temperament before shipping.
