Description

Cynarina lacrymalis — Ultra Bright Orange

Typical needs for this coral type. Ask us if you're unsure.

Transform Your Tank with a Show-Stopping Centerpiece Coral

Looking for a coral that truly stops you mid-scroll? The Cynarina lacrymalis — commonly known as the Doughnut or Button Coral — is one of the most visually striking large-polyp stony corals available in the hobby. This ultra bright orange variant is particularly rare in its intensity of coloration, commanding immediate attention in any reef tank with its vivid, electric hue and deeply textured, fleshy tissue. It's the kind of specimen that becomes the crown jewel of a saltwater aquarium.

Cynarina are solitary, single-polyp corals that grow slowly and deliberately, eventually reaching 4–6 inches across at full maturity. Unlike more aggressive LPS corals, they have a calm, self-contained presence — expanding dramatically when happy and well-fed, puffing up into a glassy, jewel-like dome that showcases every fold of color. Feeding response is one of the most rewarding experiences in the reef aquarium hobby; target-feed meaty offerings like mysis or chopped seafood and watch this coral come alive in real time.

QUICK STATS & CARE GUIDE

  • Common Name: Doughnut Coral, Button Coral, Meat Coral
  • Current Size: Approximately 3–4 inches (polyp diameter, fully extended)
  • Care Level: Easy to Moderate — an excellent choice for hobbyists at any experience level
  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive — maintain at least 6 inches of space from neighboring corals
  • Diet: Photosynthetic and carnivorous; benefits greatly from weekly target feeding with mysis shrimp, krill, or meaty marine foods
  • Reef Safe: Yes, with caution — provide adequate spacing due to sweeper tentacle reach
  • Water Conditions: Temp 76–80°F | Salinity 1.025–1.026 | pH 8.1–8.3 | dKH 8–11 | Calcium 400–450 ppm | Magnesium 1250–1350 ppm; prefers low flow and moderate lighting

WHY BUY FROM THE CORAL BOUTIQUE?

Every Cynarina we ship from The Coral Boutique has been ethically sourced, carefully quarantined, and fully conditioned in our Miami facility — actively feeding and displaying full polyp extension before it ever gets near a shipping box. We don't move a specimen until we're confident it will thrive in your home aquarium.

WYSIWYG on Select Items

If this coral is in our WYSIWYG collection and has one in stock, the photos show the exact frag or colony that ships to you. Otherwise, the photos may be representative.

Shipping & Pickup

Coral orders ship Monday through Wednesday. We confirm a delivery day with you before your order goes out, and we will hold it if the weather is bad or a coral needs more time in quarantine.

Coral orders over $399 qualify for free shipping. Fish orders over $599 qualify for free shipping. Free same-day Miami pickup is available at 46 NW 36th St and is usually ready in 1–2 hours.

Live Arrival Guarantee

Eligible coral orders are covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee. Photograph the coral in its sealed bag before you open anything, then email that photo with your order number within two hours of delivery. Our team reviews every claim and gets you an answer within one business day.

Acclimation

For best results, acclimate slowly and place new corals in lower light and flow before moving them to their final position. Coral response can vary depending on tank stability, lighting, flow, and water parameters.

Photography

We photograph our corals in house, up close, so you can judge color, shape and polyp extension. For WYSIWYG listings with one in stock, the photographed coral is the exact coral that ships.
