Description

Ultra Acanthophyllia

Typical needs for this coral type. Ask us if you're unsure.

Transform Your Tank with Red and Sky Blue Ultra Color

Looking for a centerpiece for the bottom of your reef tank? This Ultra Acanthophyllia is one solitary polyp in salmon red, streaked with sky blue across its outer ridges. A bright blue ring frames the red center, edged in a thin line of purple. Ultra grade pieces carry more color and contrast than a standard Acanthophyllia, and each one is different.

Acanthophyllia (Acanthophyllia deshayesiana) are large polyp stony (LPS) corals that grow as one big, fleshy polyp rather than a spreading colony. Set it on the sand bed or a low, flat spot in the rockwork, where it has room to expand. They grow slowly and are a good fit for reefers with some LPS experience. Give it low to moderate lighting and low to moderate flow, and target feed meaty foods such as mysis once or twice a week; the polyp swells noticeably after a feeding. At night it may extend sweeper tentacles, so leave space between it and nearby corals.

QUICK STATS & CARE GUIDE

  • Common Name: Ultra Acanthophyllia (Acantho)
  • Current Size: Single polyp (ask us for the current diameter)
  • Care Level: Moderate
  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive; may extend sweeper tentacles at night, so leave space from neighboring corals
  • Diet: Photosynthetic; benefits from target feeding meaty foods (mysis or blended coral foods) 1 to 2 times weekly
  • Reef Safe: Yes, with spacing from other corals
  • Water Conditions: Temp 76 to 79°F | Salinity 1.025 to 1.026 | pH 8.1 to 8.3 | Alkalinity 8 to 10 dKH | Calcium 400 to 450 ppm | Magnesium 1250 to 1350 ppm | Low to moderate flow | Low to moderate lighting (PAR 50 to 150)

WHY BUY FROM THE CORAL BOUTIQUE?

Every Acanthophyllia at The Coral Boutique is ethically sourced, quarantined, and conditioned in our Miami facility before it ships. We wait until each one is inflating and eating well, so the one you buy online is already settled before it goes in your reef tank.

WYSIWYG on Select Items

If this coral is in our WYSIWYG collection and has one in stock, the photos show the exact frag or colony that ships to you. Otherwise, the photos may be representative.

Shipping & Pickup

Coral orders ship Monday through Wednesday. We confirm a delivery day with you before your order goes out, and we will hold it if the weather is bad or a coral needs more time in quarantine.

Coral orders over $399 qualify for free shipping. Fish orders over $599 qualify for free shipping. Free same-day Miami pickup is available at 46 NW 36th St and is usually ready in 1–2 hours.

Live Arrival Guarantee

Eligible coral orders are covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee. Photograph the coral in its sealed bag before you open anything, then email that photo with your order number within two hours of delivery. Our team reviews every claim and gets you an answer within one business day.

Acclimation

For best results, acclimate slowly and place new corals in lower light and flow before moving them to their final position. Coral response can vary depending on tank stability, lighting, flow, and water parameters.

Photography

We photograph our corals in house, up close, so you can judge color, shape and polyp extension. For WYSIWYG listings with one in stock, the photographed coral is the exact coral that ships.

SHOT IN HOUSE

What You See Is What You Get on Select Items.

When a listing is in our WYSIWYG collection and has one in stock, the coral in the photo is the exact frag or colony we pack for you.

Some listings use a representative photo. To pick the exact piece yourself, start with the WYSIWYG collection.
