How We Quarantine Our Fish
Most of our fish, about 90 percent, go through copper and hyposalinity treatment in our store before they are sold. The exact process varies by fish.
Choosing Fish for Your Reef Tank
Tangs
Yellow, sailfin, Tomini, blue hippo, and powder brown tangs are reef favorites and great algae grazers. They need swimming room, so plan on a larger tank. Tangs with a similar body shape often fight, so if you want more than one, pick different shapes and add them at the same time.
Wrasses & Anthias
Wrasses and anthias add active color to the mid-water. Some wrasses sleep buried in the sand and fairy wrasses sleep in the rockwork. Anthias do best with frequent feedings.
Blennies, Hawkfish & Dwarf Angels
Lawnmower and Midas blennies bring personality and help with algae. Flame hawks perch on rockwork, so keep them away from small shrimp. Dwarf angels like the coral beauty and Venustus are stunning, but watch them with LPS and clams.
Tips for Adding New Fish
- Add peaceful fish first and more territorial species last.
- Drip acclimate slowly so the fish can adjust to your water chemistry.
- Keep the lights dim for the first day to reduce stress.
