Description

Vlamingii Tang

Transform Your Tank with a True Deepwater Showstopper

Looking for a rare, conversation-stopping centerpiece? The Vlamingii Tang (Naso vlamingii) is one of the most visually striking and sought-after species in the hobby — a deep-bodied, electric-blue-accented specimen that commands attention the moment it enters any saltwater aquarium. Its vivid facial markings, flowing tail filaments, and iridescent blue highlights set it apart from virtually every other tang available. If you're ready to buy a Vlamingii Tang online, know that quality specimens like this are rarely easy to source.

This species grows large — up to 24 inches in the wild — making it a long-term commitment that rewards dedicated aquarists who can provide the space it deserves. A minimum 250-gallon reef tank or FOWLR setup allows it to cruise comfortably and develop its full, breathtaking coloration over time. Known for a bold, active personality, the Vlamingii is an engaging presence that quickly learns to recognize its keeper and often leads feeding activity in the tank.

QUICK STATS & CARE GUIDE

  • Common Name: Vlamingii Tang, Bignose Unicornfish
  • Current Size: Approximately 4–6 inches (juveniles; contact us for current availability)
  • Care Level: Moderate
  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive; generally peaceful with non-similar species
  • Diet: Herbivore — dried seaweed (nori), pellets, mysis shrimp, spirulina-based foods
  • Reef Safe: Yes, with caution — will not bother corals but requires ample open swimming space
  • Water Conditions: 72–78°F | SG 1.020–1.025 | pH 8.1–8.4 | dKH 8–12

Our fish are selected with appearance, behavior, and feeding response in mind before being listed. We aim to offer healthy, alert specimens for established saltwater systems.

Compatibility

Please confirm this fish is compatible with your tank size, current livestock, temperament needs, and reef goals before ordering. If you are unsure, contact us before checkout and we’ll help you choose responsibly.

Shipping & Pickup

Eligible fish orders ship Monday through Thursday via FedEx Priority Overnight. Orders placed by 2 PM EST may ship same day when weather and availability allow.

Fish orders over $599 qualify for free shipping. Coral orders over $399 qualify for free shipping. Free same-day Miami pickup is available at 46 NW 36th St and is usually ready in 1–2 hours.

Live Arrival Guarantee

Eligible livestock orders are covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee. Photograph the animal in its sealed bag before you open anything, then email that photo with your order number within two hours of delivery. Our team reviews every claim and gets you an answer within one business day. Failed delivery attempts, refused packages, or missed delivery windows may void coverage.

Acclimation

Acclimate fish carefully and introduce them into a stable, established saltwater aquarium. Match temperature and salinity slowly, keep lights low during introduction, and monitor behavior closely after release.

Photography

We photograph our fish under balanced, aquarium-safe lighting to accurately represent their true coloration and patterning. Our goal is to show how each fish will appear in a home reef or marine setup—not under overly blue or altered lighting.

Because fish are active and constantly moving, images are representative of the species and quality you can expect. Every fish is carefully selected for health, coloration, and temperament before shipping.
