Description

Small Achilles Tang

Transform Your Tank with One of the Most Stunning and Iconic Tangs in the Reef Hobby

Looking for a tang with a signature that no other species can match? The Achilles Tang (Acanthurus achilles) is immediately recognizable and endlessly coveted — a dramatic jet-black body set against a vivid orange-red teardrop marking near the tail, accented with orange fin edging and crisp white markings near the mouth. It is one of the most visually striking tangs in existence, and one of the most talked-about acquisitions in the saltwater aquarium hobby. At small size, you're getting in early — the color is already there and the potential to grow this specimen into a full adult display piece in your system is entirely yours.

The Achilles Tang is an advanced keeper and that designation is earned. It demands pristine water quality, exceptionally high flow and oxygenation, and a stress-free environment — it is more susceptible to ich than most tangs and requires a reefer who is prepared to meet its needs consistently. For those who are ready, the reward is one of the most spectacular long-term residents any reef tank can have. This is not an impulse buy — it is a commitment that pays off every single day.

Why Buy From The Coral Boutique?

Every specimen we ship has been quarantined, conditioned, and eating before it leaves our facility. Achilles Tangs are among the most sensitive tangs in transit — ours receive extra care in handling and packing so yours arrives stable and ready for a smooth acclimation into your system.

Fish Health

Our fish are selected with appearance, behavior, and feeding response in mind before being listed. We aim to offer healthy, alert specimens for established saltwater systems.

Acclimation

Acclimate fish carefully and introduce them into a stable, established saltwater aquarium. Match temperature and salinity slowly, keep lights low during introduction, and monitor behavior closely after release.

Photography

We photograph our fish under balanced, aquarium-safe lighting to accurately represent their true coloration and patterning. Our goal is to show how each fish will appear in a home reef or marine setup—not under overly blue or altered lighting.

Because fish are active and constantly moving, images are representative of the species and quality you can expect. Every fish is carefully selected for health, coloration, and temperament before shipping.
