Description

Neon Orange Mushroom

Typical needs for this coral type. Ask us if you're unsure.

Transform Your Tank with an Electric Pop of Color

Looking for a standout coral that commands attention... The Neon Orange Mushroom (Actinodiscus sp.) is one of the most visually striking soft corals available in the hobby, delivering an intense, almost fluorescent orange that few reef tank specimens can match. Whether under blue-dominant LED or full-spectrum lighting, this coral practically glows from across the room. It's the kind of addition that draws every eye straight to the glass.

Mushroom corals are famously hardy and forgiving, making this a top choice for both newer aquarists and experienced reef keepers who simply want reliable, low-maintenance color. Individual polyps typically range from 1–3 inches across at full extension and will slowly multiply into a vibrant colony over time, carpeting rockwork in vivid orange. Despite their easygoing nature, they're full of personality — expanding generously under good conditions and pulling tight when they need a rest.

QUICK STATS & CARE GUIDE

  • Common Name: Neon Orange Mushroom Coral (Actinodiscus sp. / Discosoma sp.)
  • Current Size: 1–2 inches per polyp (frags may include multiple heads)
  • Care Level: Easy — excellent for beginners and low-maintenance reef tanks
  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive — can sting neighboring corals with sweeper tentacles; allow adequate spacing
  • Diet: Primarily photosynthetic; benefits from occasional target feeding of zooplankton or coral-specific foods
  • Reef Safe: Yes, with caution — keep away from delicate SPS and LPS neighbors
  • Water Conditions: Temp 75–80°F | Salinity 1.023–1.025 | pH 8.1–8.4 | Low flow | Low to moderate lighting (50–150 PAR)

WHY BUY FROM THE CORAL BOUTIQUE?

Every specimen we ship from The Coral Boutique is ethically sourced, fully quarantined, and conditioned in our Miami facility until it's actively expanding and thriving — never pulled from a holding tank straight to a box. When your coral arrives, it's already acclimated to reef life and ready to make itself at home.

WYSIWYG on Select Items

If this coral is in our WYSIWYG collection and has one in stock, the photos show the exact frag or colony that ships to you. Otherwise, the photos may be representative.

Shipping & Pickup

Coral orders ship Monday through Wednesday. We confirm a delivery day with you before your order goes out, and we will hold it if the weather is bad or a coral needs more time in quarantine.

Coral orders over $399 qualify for free shipping. Fish orders over $599 qualify for free shipping. Free same-day Miami pickup is available at 46 NW 36th St and is usually ready in 1–2 hours.

Live Arrival Guarantee

Eligible coral orders are covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee. Photograph the coral in its sealed bag before you open anything, then email that photo with your order number within two hours of delivery. Our team reviews every claim and gets you an answer within one business day.

Acclimation

For best results, acclimate slowly and place new corals in lower light and flow before moving them to their final position. Coral response can vary depending on tank stability, lighting, flow, and water parameters.

Photography

We photograph our corals in house, up close, so you can judge color, shape and polyp extension. For WYSIWYG listings with one in stock, the photographed coral is the exact coral that ships.
