Acanthophyllia (Acanthophyllia deshayesiana) are large polyp stony (LPS) corals that grow as one big, fleshy polyp instead of a spreading colony. They belong on the sand bed or a low, flat spot in the rockwork, and they grow slowly. Give this one low to moderate lighting and low to moderate flow, and target feed it meaty foods once or twice a week; a well fed Acanthophyllia puffs up and holds its color. At night it can put out sweeper tentacles, so keep it clear of neighboring corals.
