Description

Perfect Corals Catalytic Activated Carbon & GFO Filtration Kit — GFO (1.0 lb) + Carbon (2.25 lb)

Transform Your Tank with Cleaner Water and Controlled Nutrients

Looking for a straightforward way to tackle phosphates and dissolved organics at the same time? These are two of the most common water quality battles in any reef tank, and fighting them with the right media makes an immediate, visible difference. This kit from Perfect Corals gives you both weapons — high-performance GFO and catalytic activated carbon — bundled together with everything you need to get running.

The GFO uses a crystalline α-Ferric oxide hydroxide structure with an exceptionally high surface area to chemically bind and remove phosphate at the molecular level. Lower phosphates mean fewer algae outbreaks and healthier calcification in SPS and LPS corals. The catalytic activated carbon is a virgin, coconut-shell-derived granular carbon that strips dissolved organic compounds, chloramines, hydrogen sulfide, yellowing tints, and odors from your water column — dramatically improving clarity and light penetration so your corals get the full benefit of your lighting investment. Two rust-proof, reef-safe mesh filter bags (5.5" x 7.48" with plastic zippers) are included so you can deploy both media immediately in your sump or a high-flow area.

PACKAGE CONTAINS

  • GFO (Granular Ferric Oxide) — 1.0 lb (454 g)
  • Catalytic Activated Carbon — 2.25 lb (1.02 kg)
  • 2 reef-safe mesh filter bags — 5.5" x 7.48" with rust-proof plastic zippers

QUICK STATS & DOSING GUIDE

  • GFO Starting Dose: ~1 tablespoon per 4 gallons of tank volume
  • GFO Replacement Schedule: Monitor phosphates weekly during first use; replace every 4–8 weeks thereafter, or when phosphate levels begin to climb
  • Carbon Starting Dose: Up to 1.25 cups per 100 gallons, or 2 tablespoons per 10 gallons
  • Carbon Replacement Schedule: Remove and replace every 3–4 weeks, or when tank water shows yellowing vs. fresh RO/DI water
  • Form: GFO — granular iron oxide; Carbon — granular coconut-shell activated carbon
  • Delivery Method: Mesh filter bag (included) or media reactor for GFO
  • Best For: Reef tanks experiencing elevated phosphates, nuisance algae, discolored water, or DOC buildup
  • Compatibility: Suitable for all saltwater aquarium and marine aquarium systems; carbon is also compatible with RO/DI filtration

WHY BUY FROM THE CORAL BOUTIQUE?

At The Coral Boutique, we stock media we actually run in our own reef tanks — GFO and activated carbon are non-negotiables in our filtration regimen, and this kit makes it easy to run both without hunting down separate bags. When reef chemistry matters, we don't guess — and we don't sell products we wouldn't use ourselves.
