Description

Ultra Wellsophyllia (Brain Coral)

Transform Your Tank with a Living Centerpiece of Color

Looking for a showstopper that commands attention... The Ultra Wellsophyllia is one of the most visually spectacular LPS corals available in the hobby today. With sweeping, brain-like valleys rendered in electric combinations of red, pink, teal, and green, no two specimens are alike — each one is a singular work of natural art. Increasingly rare in the wild and coveted by serious collectors, an Ultra-grade Wellsophyllia is the kind of addition that elevates a reef tank from beautiful to extraordinary.

This is a large-polyp stony coral with impressive presence and a surprisingly forgiving temperament, making it a rewarding choice for intermediate to advanced aquarists. It grows as a free-living, disc-shaped colony and appreciates gentle flow and moderate lighting where its fleshy tissue can fully extend. Given the right conditions, it will expand dramatically during feeding, revealing just how animated and alive a saltwater aquarium centerpiece can truly be.

QUICK STATS & CARE GUIDE

  • Common Name: Ultra Wellsophyllia, Brain Coral
  • Current Size: Varies by specimen — typically 3–6 inches across
  • Care Level: Moderate
  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive — keep clear of neighboring corals; can extend sweeper tentacles at night
  • Diet: Photosynthetic (Zooxanthellae); benefits from target feeding with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, krill, or prepared LPS coral food 1–2x per week
  • Reef Safe: Yes, with caution — provide adequate spacing from other corals
  • Water Conditions: Temp 76–79°F | Salinity 1.025–1.026 | pH 8.1–8.3 | Calcium 400–450 ppm | Alkalinity 8–10 dKH | Magnesium 1250–1350 ppm | Low to moderate flow | Moderate lighting (PAR 75–150)

WHY BUY FROM THE CORAL BOUTIQUE?

Every Ultra Wellsophyllia we offer is ethically sourced, fully quarantined, and conditioned in our Miami facility until it is visibly healthy, fully extended, and thriving before it ever ships to you. At The Coral Boutique, we don't ship stressed corals — your specimen arrives ready to settle in and flourish.

WYSIWYG on Select Items

If this coral is in our WYSIWYG collection and has one in stock, the photos show the exact frag or colony that ships to you. Otherwise, the photos may be representative.

Shipping & Pickup

Coral orders ship Monday through Wednesday. We confirm a delivery day with you before your order goes out, and we will hold it if the weather is bad or a coral needs more time in quarantine.

Coral orders over $399 qualify for free shipping. Fish orders over $599 qualify for free shipping. Free same-day Miami pickup is available at 46 NW 36th St and is usually ready in 1–2 hours.

Live Arrival Guarantee

Eligible coral orders are covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee. Photograph the coral in its sealed bag before you open anything, then email that photo with your order number within two hours of delivery. Our team reviews every claim and gets you an answer within one business day.

Acclimation

For best results, acclimate slowly and place new corals in lower light and flow before moving them to their final position. Coral response can vary depending on tank stability, lighting, flow, and water parameters.

Photography

We photograph our corals in house, up close, so you can judge color, shape and polyp extension. For WYSIWYG listings with one in stock, the photographed coral is the exact coral that ships.
